2 Fingered Mitts

posted by Prairie Wind Alpacas    |   March 28, 2013 14:07

Here is a great pair of mitts we have - "2 finger mitts". You no longer have to take your mitts off to pick up items or do other tasks - you can keep these on while you do everything and keep your hands warm.

Weanlings Back with Moms

posted by Prairie Wind Alpacas    |   March 26, 2013 14:08

After a couple of days of getting to know one another Rider seems to be fitting in well with the adult males.
Yesterday we put the weanlings back in with the females - including Napoleon, the only male, because we didn't want to have him alone in the yearling male pasture since Rider decided to leave. Napoleon is very happy to be back with his mom, Paris; he would stand in the barn and cry to be back with her everyday!

Reunited!

posted by Prairie Wind Alpacas    |   March 24, 2013 14:12

Well today Rider decided that he had been away from Jackson and Marco for long enough and we obviously weren't going to do anything about it so he decided to take matters into his own hands and take advantage of the high snow and he jumped the fence into the adult male pasture.
We were concerned about what the bigger males would do to him but he is sticking close to Jackson and Marco and when another male comes close to him either Jackson or Marco will step in between them!

Here they are - reunited once again - everyone is happy!

Clearing Snow

posted by Prairie Wind Alpacas    |   March 23, 2013 14:13

Spent most of the day yesterday clearing paths for the animals so they could get out to the pasture. Here's Rider standing in the middle of the path we are trying to clear!

Toque!

Here's a nice warm toque to help keep you warm in this cold wind we have today!
Alpaca fibre is great at blocking the wind!
Our animals do not like the wind and choose to stay in the barn on these windy days rather than go out to the pasture.

Blaze!
The cria are getting used to being away from their moms but still "talk" to them when they are all in the barn!

Lonely Rider

Rider is missing Jackson and Marco since they got moved into the adult male pen and the cria have been moved in with him for weaning. He won't eat his crunchies inside the barn with the cria, he only wants to eat along the fence beside Marco and Jackson!
